Vienna, Day 11: Kipferl and Tram

Donnerstag, 24 Jänner

Fun fact: did you know Thursday comes from the Norse "Thor's Day," god of thunder, and German's Donnerstag literally means "Thunder-Day?" Kudos to Charles.

So today, I tried my first Kipferl. It's a pastry that looks like those traveler's neck pillows, or a toilet seat, depending on how you look at it:

Also, I had an adventure on the Vienna Time, line 1 today. I'd been wanting to take a personal round-trip tour of central historic Vienna, since the trams run circularly around the city center, or so I thought. Today, I accidentally took it ALL the way to the end of the line. It was rather dark, deserted, with just me and a lady chatting on the phone in some African dialect. I was pretty convinced I was stranded, and tried to talk to the lady, but she wouldn't end her phone call for me. After about 10 minutes of suspenseful waiting, as she finally spoke with me, the tram started to move, and we returned to civilization, back the way we came. Phew!

Good news is I saw a Steinway-Haus (store) on the way!
